The 1 January 2006 was the day we opened up the doors for or new build guesthouse in Ao Nang.

In the guesthouse we have 6 nice standard rooms and 2 large suite rooms, all of them with own designed wooden furniture's, cable television, safety box, refrigerator and hot shower. The suites have an en suite living room with sofas and balcony. There is also the chance to choose between having fan or air-con in the room. The rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor have nice balconies with amazing Mountain View.

When you arrival to Ao Nang, and checked in to your room and maybe take some rest after your long journey, its time to explore Ao Nangs many attractions. You can enjoy a day on the beach, go on a trip to the locale islands around Ao Nang, take a diver license and dive in some of the best diving's areas in the world or rent a motorbike and drive around and see the amazing land around in Krabi province. There are so many things to do in and around Ao Nang,

The new thing in our guesthouse for the season 2006/2007 is our little breakfast restaurant. Here you can chose between different sets of breakfast all served with a good cup of coffee or tea.

Things to do here
There is a day tour on a long tail boat and take in some of the islands, including beautiful Poda Island. Snorkeling and scuba diving are popular activities and there are a number of dive schools located in the area. On land you can do rock climbing on the limestone cliffs at nearby Railway beach, go elephant trekking, see a snake show or check out giant catfish. Nearby Aonang offers western food and nightlife should you require it.

Krabi is located about 850 km south of Bangkok and 190 km east of Phuket. From Bangkok there are many daily flights to Krabi International Airport. Buses and trains can also be taken.

There are two ways from Krabi to our residence.
(1) By bus: there are buses available from Krabi airport to Ao-Nang. As our residence is not too far from Ao-Nang and also located on the main road along Ao-Nang, you can take those buses to our residence too. You can ask airport staffs for assistance that which bus will go to Ao-Nang.

(2) By car: the residence is about a 20 minutes drive from Krabi.

Should you require assistance getting here please do not hesitate to call. The residence taxi is available for pick up from the airport 700 baht, and Krabi town 600 baht.

West Noppharat Thara Beach is still a relatively isolated location with limited road access and most customers arriving by boat from the nearby tourist town of Ao Nang.

From the resort you look out over Noppharat Thara Bay and numerous islands and limestone outcrops for which the area is famous.

A boat shuttle service is available in the daytime to take customers to and from the National Park Pier. From there it is a 5 minute tuk tuk to Aonang.

Due to our remote location, we are on generator power and only able to provide electricity to the rooms between the hours of 6.00 pm and 6.00 am. Hot water is also unavailable.

Krabi is located about 900 km south of Bangkok and 190 km east of Phuket. From Bangkok there are many daily flights to Krabi International Airport. Buses and trains can also be taken.

Once in Krabi, there are two ways to arrive. Please refer to the map for assistance.

(1) By boat: get a minibus or taxi to Noppharatara National Park (near Aonang). Go to the pier and ask the Long Tail Boat driver to take you to the Private Beach Resort on the other side of the channel. At high tide they can bring you to the front of the resort. At low tide it's about a 300 meter walk along the beach. If you call us we can arrange for a longtail boat to pick you (50 THB pr person/ min 2 people). This service finishes at 6 pm.
(2) By car: the resort is about a 25 minute drive from Krabi. Be warned, the road in is very bumpy!

Should you require assistance getting here please do not hesitate to call. The resort taxi is available for pick up from the airport 700 baht, and Krabi town 600 baht.

The river side building locates the restaurant on down stair. Five unique and antique decorated guest rooms are up-stair. It has the balcony faces to the river for your leisure time, we have 3 rooms (room # 1, 3, 4) with the river view (room # 3 also has its own balcony for river view) and the Queen sized bed. Room#2 has double queen size bed. They are all cost 670 Baht per night. The room#5 with inner court view is cost 560 Baht. The dormitory is located on the upper floor of the center of the house with 4 single beds and each own lockers (300 Baht/bed/night).

For the front house which located by the main street, we have 4 bedrooms. The rooms are traditional Thai style: sleep in insect screen curtain. One single-bed room is cost 350 Baht/night. Three double rooms with queen size bed are cost 450 Baht/night.

River side and front building are electric fan bedrooms and shared bath rooms (4 rooms).

The retro style building is also located closed to the main road has 5 bedrooms with owned private bathroom. Two queen size bedrooms located down stair have their own private garden (450 Baht/night). The other two queen size bedrooms are on up stair (450 Baht/night). The biggest room with twin beds is an air condition also on the up stair (900 Baht/night).

Ayutthaya Historical Study Centre
It is nearby HI-Ayutthaya and the Chao Sam Praya National Museum, and is a good place to start exploring Ayutthaya city for visitors. The hi-tech exhibit area in the main building covers 5 aspects of Ayutthaya's history: city development, port, administration, lifestyles and traditions. The annexe contains an exhibit on foreign relations with Ayutthaya. The centre is open 9am to 4.30pm weekdays, 9am to 5pm weekends. Admission to both costs 100 Baht and 50 Baht for students.

Wat Pra Sri Sanpet
This was the largest temple in Ayutthaya in its time, and it was used as the royal temple/palace for several Ayutthaya kings. Built in the 14th century, the compound was once contained a 16m-high standing Buddha covered with 250Kg of gold, which was melt down by the Burmese conquerors. It is mainly known for the line of three large Chedi (stupas) erected in the quintessential Ayutthaya style. Admission 30 Baht

Wat Mongkhon Bophit
This monastery, just next to Wat Pra Sri Sanpet, contains one of Thailand's largest Buddha images, Pra Mongkhon Bophit - a 15th-century bronze casting. The present wihaan (Buddhist image sanctuary) was built in 1956.

Wat Na Phra Mane
This temple is opposite the Ancient Palace on the other side of Lopburi River. It was not damaged because Burma's king chose the area in the temple to fire cannon at the Palace.
the Buddha image is very gorgeous, bronze Buddha image covered with gold a 6m-high & 4.5m-wide in the posture of subduing the Mara.

Wat Phanan Choeng
This temple is located at the south-east of town on Chao Praya River. This temple was built in the early 14th century before Ayutthaya became a Siamese capital. The main wihaan contains a highly revered 19m-high sitting Buddha image from which the temple derives its name.

- Airport Limousine: As someone will approach you (while in the building when you are about to get off the building) to ask if you want a taxi. This exclusive service will cost you around 800 baht from the airport to Silom (cars used are usually Mercedez-Benz, Volvo, or Toyota Camry).

- Taxi: There is an airport taxi booth just outside the arrivals building (on the first floor) where you can take a taxi-meter. Besides the meter fare, there are also an airport surcharge of 50 baht, plus 65 baht for the express way fees ( 25 and 40 baht respectively). This will cost you around 350 baht (little bit less or more depends on traffic).

-Airport Bus: - Take the airport route AE1 - Silom line. Get off at Robinson Silom. When you get off the bus, you will find yourself on Rama 4 Road, not Silom. Turn around the corner. Once you find yourself on Silom Road, cross the street. Look for Saladaeng Road......
The fare is 150 baht per person.

- Bus: There are two bus lines that usually run from the airport to BTS (Skytrain) station:
- Bus No. 551(connects Suvarnabhumi Airport to the Victory Monument. When you get off at the Victory Monument bus stop, take the skytrain to Saladaeng station.......

- Bus No. 552 (connects Suvarnabhumi Airport to the On-nut skytrain station). When you get off at On-nut Skytrain Station bus stop, take a skytrain to Saladaeng Station......

Even though we are not a full-serviced apartment with 24hr front desk; but if you find yourself running early or late and will not arrive at that time, please kindly let us know as soon as possible.

Our Security Guard who knows the properties very well and can coordinate your arrival; will show you to your reserved apartment unit; after the verification process as follows:

a) The Security Guard will ask to see the reservation/confirmation document & the passport to crosscheck name and the reference number.

Hello fellow travellers, 'Soi 1 guesthouse' is an Australian/American influenced, Thai owned 24 hour, guesthouse, and youth hostel, now being over-seen by our diligent, on-site owner, Nai. Whether it's your first time or if you've been here before, we have time to help all travellers! Thai is my native language, but I can speak English and German, which over here, you'll find, saves you first-time visitors heaps of time and aggravation as you settle in; I lived in Germany for 5 years!

Things are a bit quite in Bangkok Sept -Oct and again April- May (low season) but the High season in Thailand starts in November and last thru Feb and again June-August. Our High season management team is back.( Hey, we deserve a bit of getting around time ourselves! How do you think we learn the things we share with you?) During this peak period will help you discover Thailand, Cambodia, Lao and Vietnam. Also We know Bangkok well From Massages to Parties, Temples to Tailors and Shopping to the Shows (Siam Niramit (Google it) to the infamous Ping Pong ball show....all tried and true with us and our past guest.) We've done the trips you'll do and can give you all the options (time/$) you need for you to choose the ones that best suit you. 'Soi 1 Guesthouse' is proud to be part of the fast growing 'Sukhumvit area.' 'Soi 1 Guesthouse' gives you a great alternative to Bangkok, location wise. From Soi 1 you can easily access the better part of Bangkok safely, cheaply and easily.

We try to supply you with all you need, and we keep the Majority happy, but we cannot be everything to everybody. What we promise for the money you pay for a bed here is...A Bed in an air-conditioned room, Hot showers and a Clean, Safe environment with 24 hr access, 24 hour reception, a common room and onward travel Tips. There are other perks mentioned below that we have added because as travellers ourselves we see the usefulness these provide to travellers. We are NOT responsible for the weather, the pollution, the Low season, the smells of the city, your personality, your love life or anything else that happens outside of soi1guesthouse. But we do give you a safe, comfortable retreat from these. If you read the info on our walls you will save money. This is officially what you get when you stay at soi1. All our other perks are free and available to travellers even if not staying here including our help. At Soi 1 we might fluff your pillow BUT we don't tuck you in.


Soi 1 has:
Triple private, 4, 6 (Female) 8, and 10 person dorm rooms. All beds are in a good air-conditioned room. We have a total of 43 beds. (*)The 3 person private room has shower only. (*) 4 bed private the showers are just outside room. ALL toilets, as in most Hostels, are shared. Ours are Western style and we supply the toilet paper. (We keep them clean, check our rating for cleanliness, toilets can tell you a lot about a place!) A Private room defined by us, is a room that cost as much as any other beds, but each bed must be secured (paid for) and the room needs a key for entry.
(We have opened a new dorm room code name ORANGE as an introductory offer when booking 'On-Line only ' we are offereing beds in this Air/con Mixed dorm for 300 baht thru August. call it a summer student special. Just something we wanted to do.)

We take great pride in the condition of Soi 1 Guesthouse. Clean describes it best. We have new mattresses, sheets, and pillows on every bed and air-conditioning in every room. No hidden fees. No tricky prices. ALL our beds are the same price, unlike some Hostels that list One bed cheap to make their cost seem low Tricking you into believing all their beds are that price, You usually don't notice till after you book the real price. Tricky eh..? Not us. The condition of our atmosphere is one that is relaxed, open minded, comfortable, secure, clean, and happy. We keep it that way. If you?re arriving or departing at Bangkok you will find that we are what you want! If you?re an experienced backpacker you will notice how great our thick mattresses, clean linen, plush towels, the 'guest-friendly management' and the affordable, comfortable environment we supply are compared to others! Kind of a dirty trick to charge extra $ for that as A lot of Planes do arrive in the early AM hours and then the Taxi ride to town. what kind of Place would we be running here to Charge you extra to check you in on your arrival. Our restaurant here at 'Soi 1' serves delicious Western foods and classic Thai dishes like Tom Yum, Pad Thai, Thai curries and more, prepared as you order to taste, never frozen and using only fresh ingredients! Breakfast, lunch, or a light snack or dinner. Western Style Breakfast: eggs, bacon beans, toast, cereal, etc.

We serve Heineken and Local beers such as Singha, Chang, Leo and Chang draft all reasonably priced. Dave?s Tip; try the "Red Horse" beer - large bottle 100 Baht 6.9 % with flavour and of course various spirits.

All in our air-conditioned licensed bar.

We have a pool table, 2 satellites dishes to catch over 400 + stations and sports and programs from around the world. We also have a great variety of music, 24 hour Hi-speed internet access (1 Baht a minute) (for those who can?t take advantage of our free strong signal WI-FI through-out the entire hostel.) All in our air-conditioned bar and game-room along with the darts (new bristle board coming, ) chess and other social games that do help people come together and relax cheaply; free book exchange and 24 hr lounge for your use!

All guests also receive free 20 minutes per day after 10:00 p.m. of 2.5 mbps ADSL internet access or computer time. Gives our guest a chance to do a bit of research, see if they have e-mails and possibly time to reply to a few, on us. We do not use a clock, just be honest. Internet costs 1 baht a minute; at that price, usually everyone puts up the cost. At Soi 1 Guesthouse you have unlimited time, free, strong signal WI-FI (wireless internet) that can be received (now on all 4 floors, in all rooms and roof top balcony) by anyone with his or her own laptop or wireless device 24 hours a day, no day fees, and no memberships

2 blocks away is a 1 hour Traditional Thai massage cost a flat 200 Baht, a fraction of the cost charged at home, they are addicting- when I get a stiff neck from behind this computer , It is the cure, great for hangovers, gets the blood moving!!

See what some say are the best falls in Thailand- Era wan Falls (have a swim at the bottom), Tiger Temple (ever touch a tiger?) Hot Springs, Hell Fire Pass, Elephant rides (ever wash an elephant?) and bamboo rafting. We can tell you how to get there for less than 200 baht. Make it a 3 day run and you can add three Pagoda Pass, Viwagaram Temple, underwater temple, orphanage, and long wooden bridge. Monkey training School.

Everyone needs a map so they can get an idea of how to get about and to realize just how great our location is. We give you a free map of Bangkok, ( they Bring maps we give them out) showing BTS (Sky train), MRT (Subway), Canal routes ? which you should do at least once when you are here. Want to see Khao San Rd? We'll get you there from the front door of Soi 1 for less than 20 Baht. The Chatuchak (the huge weekend market) from Soi1 you can get there for less than 40 baht. Update; just ask us how to get to the places you want to go. Our location is as good as we say. (See our location comments overall) the only people who think our location is bad are folks that have not asked us how to get some where and have jumped in a taxi or tuk tuk with no idea and have been overcharged. (Beware of tuk tuks) from Soi 1 guesthouse front door and back to the major tourist sites (i.e. The Grand Palace, Wat Po, Emerald Buddha etc.) we can tell you how to get there and back for less than 80 baht in Transportation cost. For your happiness, please ask us how if we have not already showed you. Be a traveller, not just a tourist.

At 'Soi 1 Guesthouse' we happily help you find what you?re looking for and can offer many suggestions to you no matter what your budget or time restraints. Just ask us how! Oh we also have a nice library of travel reference books that deal with Thailand and the rest of S.E. Asia and other countries that are most travelled to, by our guest exiting Thailand. (I.e. Australia, India, Cambodia etc...)

When you get here make sure you ask to be shown where we are located. Our location is as good as we make out, but if you don't know where you are, you?re lost no matter where you?re at.

Be friendly, be happy, and be helpful. We realize while travelling, schedules change, opportunities arise, if this happens to you we will NEVER charge your card for missing your reserved booking and we will cheerfully fully refund your nights not used. Why? When we can, as you agreed to when booking your bed... Because we know how it goes. If your flight leaves late in the day, you can secure your luggage till departure time for free; relax in our air-conditioned game room/bar/TV or internet lounge. No day fees. No fees for washing sheets. No hidden fees!

We don't allow food to be taken into rooms as we have zero bug content in our rooms and wish to keep it that way for future guest. This rule is not unusual in hostels but some claim it unfair, they don't think of others, some of whom don't like the smell of some foods. or realize here, in this climate, how fast the ants find the crumbs. But the majority of guests appreciate it as it keeps the rooms comfortable for all. We do supply places to eat outside of the room, ?Sorry Peter, but no you can't stash that curry dish under your bed for later!?

We are different, well travelled ourselves we understand the curiosities, needs, and dislikes of being on the road, so we are ahead of the game. Free lockers, (bigger than a laptop), but smaller than a big backpack. You can put that big backpack in the free short and long term storage. (Blue Door next to the 24 hr manned reception desk, as are the lockers... Like having a 24 hr guard for your gear), which is unbelievably helpful to lighten your load while doing Thailand (you don't need to carry all the winter gear). Often used to its capacity but always room for a few more. (Right now besides all the backpacks were holding Skis, Surf boards. Just thought I'd mention that as I think it?s pretty cool.)

Located next to the Bumrungrad Hospital, so many patients from around the world they just opened a Thai visa office there no lines as of yet - convenient for many of my guest.
Don't be misled; being next to a World class hospital our street is quiet and safe. There is not a "girly bar" on the street (Soi 1). The sleaze factor is 0. Two blocks east of here all that changes.

Embassies:
Walking distance to the British (6 blocks), Australian, American, Dutch, and Spanish and Vietnam (8 blocks), Cambodian, Danish, Finnish, Swedish, New Zealand, Swiss, German, Austrian, Polish and South African embassies heaps of other embassies in walking distance.

Kick-boxing: (the real deal)
If you?re interested in Thai Boxing, here's the places where it happens. Not far from here (again walking distance) is the main venue in the world to watch kick-boxing 'Lumpini stadium'. It's something to see, mad crowds. Here?s a bit about fight times--
