Södra Bruket is an old industrial site which has been conserved because of its historical interest. It is located near the water by Kalmarsund, one kilometer south of Degerhamn.

There are 6 old houses containing 13 rooms in the youth hostel and 23 apartments. There is also a museum flat, a mill and a smithy, in buildings that are 200 years old. Many of our visitors are birdwatchers and nature lovers who are interested in the Alvaret on Öland.

You will love our beautiful scenery in the heart of nature.

Your apartment / room is situated in an old industrial site which is to be conserved because of its historical interest. There are six big houses containing thirty three modern apartments and one museum apartment. There are also 13 rooms in our youth hostels.

We have got a mill and a smithy. All the buildings are more than 200 years old.

In older days
You can see a number of small shelters at the seaside. People working in the industry could keep a pig and some hens for their household in these small shelters. There where also common rooms for baking and washing clothes. A family of 10-15 persons could live in a small one-room-flat and at about 1890 they built one-room-and-a-kitchen-flat for the families.

The apartments
The flats have got a modern standard, but not that modern. Many things are in the same way as in older days when people used to have fires to heat there flats and had to carry water to get it indoors and also used toilets outdoors. Now a days all the apartments have their own WC- and Shower room and an well equipped kitchen with stow, refrigerator and in some of them even micro own and dish washer.

The rooms in the youth hostel
In the stone house there are 10 rooms. Eight rooms are upstairs, and there are a big sitting room, a well equipped kitchen and three WC- and shower rooms. Downstairs we have two rooms with broad doors, one WC- and shower room that is handicap equipped. There is also a kitchenette.

Cleaning
You can book the cleaning of the room / apartment for the price of 300 SEK / 450 SEK / 600 SEK / 750 SEK depending on the size of the room / apartment.

If you have had dogs in your apartment the cleaning will cost 150 SEK more per dog.

You have to bring bedlinen and towels or order it before you come.

Sandwiches or baguettes can be ordered to your accommodation if you want something to eat at arrival.


Arrival
You can come at 15.00 hrs the day of arrival and leave at 12.00 hrs on the day of departure unless otherwise stated with our caretaker.

When you arrive at Södra Bruket the entrance door of your apartment is unlocked and the key is on the kitchen table.

If you have booked a room at the hostel.
The main entrance is open until 20.00 and the key is in the door of the room. If you will arrive later than 20.00 at the hostel, please give us a call before 20.00 and you will get the number of the code lock at the main entrance.

Registration card
In every apartment and room there is a registration card. Fill it in and leave it with us at your departure. If there is anything missing in your apartment notice it on the back side of the registration card.

Departure
The departure from the room / apartment is at latest 12.00 am. If you have ordered cleaning of the room / apartment we would appreciate to be able to start with the room / apartment latest at 11.00.

Inspection
We make an inspection of the apartment / room after your departure and before next guest will arrive. You are supposed to leave the apartment in a good and clean order.

Our apartments are equipped for self catering and you also have to tidy up before you leave it.
We want our guests to get a clean and proper apartment / rooms so they can have a lovely holiday indoors as well as outdoors.

We want our guests tkeep quiet at 22.00 hours and no showering after 23.00.


About fire
There is a fire extinguisher in every apartment and on several places in the youth hostel. There are also fire detectors. It is important for your safety that you check those things when you arrive.
From the upper floor there will be ladders from the windows marked with green exit signs. In the bottom floor you are supposed to jump out from the window in the event of fire, if you can not use the door.

Pets
If you want to bring a pet you have to tell us in advance. We have special rooms at the youth hostel where you can stay together with your pet. In most of the apartments you can also bring your pet, but tell us when you book your accommodation.

Insects
The houses are situated near the sea, which make them attractive to us. But there is also small insects called gråsugga in Swedish (translated grey-woman-pig). The gråsugga also likes this environment and we have to get used to her and stand her because she is impossible to get rid of. She is quit harmless and she rolls together like a ball when she feels threatened. Also she is very good food for the birds.

Lime
Here on Öland the water is much carbonised. Because of that the bottom of our pots will become white of lime deposit. It does not look nice but it is also harmless and possible to wash away.

Smoking
Smoking is not allowed indoors in any of our buildings at Södra Bruket

Linen and towels
You bring your own linen and towels or tell us if you want to rent linen and towels when you book the accommodation. Please tell us in advance. Sheets and towels are available for hire.

Cleaning the apartment:
» Clean the floors
» Please clean the toilet- and shower room carefully in.
» Vacuum clean big carpets.
» Shake small carpets out door as well as bed cloths and pillows.
» The cooker and the oven as well as pans have to be carefully cleaned
» The refrigerator has to be defrosted and cleaned.
» There is a vacuum cleaner in each flat.

Cleaning the room at the hostel:
» Clean the floors
» There is a vacuum cleaner you can use.
» Shake small carpets out door as well as bed cloths and pillows before leaving.
» Leave the toilet- and shower room in good order when you have used it.
» Leave the kitchen in good order when you have used it.
» Do not forget anything in the freezer or in the refrigerator.

1. Follow the way from Kalmar to Oland. After you have passed the bridge, follow the road sign to Ottenby, road number 136.
2. You pass some small villages like Skogsby, Kastlosa, Smedby and Sodra Mockleby. It is about 40 km south.
3. About one km south of Sondra Mockleby there is a white road sign telling you to turn right on the way to Sondra Buket

Closest airports are Jönköping (60km) and Skövde (40km). Bus 404 between Jönköping and Hjo stops close to the hostel (get off at the golf course). Closest town is Hjo (9000 inhabitants), which offers all facilities of a town. It is famous for its traditional buildings and well preserved ancient atmosphere. A small harbor, swimming pools, library (with internet access), museums, aquarium. Every year in July there is a handicraft fare, usually visited by thousands of people. If you have other interests we can help you arrange for it.

PAYMENT Is done on arrival. Reservation charge/payment in advance is possible.

DAMAGE The Skanstulls Hostel is only responsible for damage caused by the staff.

By car
If you arrive from the south of Stockholm on the E4 or E20 highways you take the exit directing you to Fridhemsplan. At Fridhemsplan you turn left onto S:t Eriksgatan. After a few hundred meters you will see a sign on the right hand side saying 'Norra Bantorget'. Turn right after the sign onto Fleminggatan. Follow that street until it ends and continue over the bridge onto Kungsgatan. When you come to the crossing Kungsgatan/Vasagatan you turn left and soon you will find yourself at the square Norra Bantorget. If you arrive by car from the north follow the signs for S:t Eriksplan. At S:t Eriksplan you turn onto Torsgatan, and then follow that street to Norra Bantorget.

By train
When you have arrived at the Central Station, take the main exit onto the street Vasagatan. Take to the left and follow Vasagatan until you, after about 400 meters, reach the square Norra Bantorget. Here Vasagatan changes name into Upplandsgatan. The hostel is in the first builing on your right, right after the restaurant Anders Limpbar. On foot it takes about ten minutes to walk from the Central Station. The buses 47, 69 and 53 all stop at Norra Bantorget.

By bus
The majority of buses stop at the City Terminalen, the main bus terminal. The best way to the hostel is to take the escalators at the left of the exit at Klarabergsviadukten. They take you to the street Vasagatan. Then you just follow the directions under train.

By airplane
If you arrive at the airports of Arlanda, Bromma or Skavsta you take the airport shuttle to City Terminalen. Just follow the directions given above for guests arriving by bus. From Arlanda airport you can also choose to take the high speed train, Arlanda Express, to downtown. The train is more expensive than the bus, but it gets you into the city in 20 minutes instead of 40. The airport train terminal in Stockholm is situated at Östra Järnvägsgatan which is even closer to us than the Central Railway Station and Cityterminalen, about a five minute walk. Bus: 95 SEK, Train: 100 SEK (-26 yrs) or 200 SEK (from 26 yrs).

By Car From The North

Drive on the E4/E20. Follow the signs towards Norrtull. When you have passed under a small railway bridge, turn right. By the next traffic lights, turn left. Now you should be at St Eriksgatan. Follow it until you come to number 20, in the St Eriksgatan/Hantverkargatan crossing.

Airport

Arlanda airport is the closest airport and is situated 40 km, about a 35 minute drive, from Stockholm City. The easiest way to get there is by taxi (about 435 SEK). From the Central Station you can catch the airport bus every 10 minutes (65 SEK) or the Arlanda Express train every 15 minutes (120 SEK).

Subway:

Located in central Stockholm, the large hostel Långholmen is situated on a green and quiet island close to public communications. Långholmen is the most captivating hostel in Stockholm. During the long summer evenings our top-deck bar is open. Here our guests can enjoy a cold beverage alongside magnificent views of Lake Mälaren. Rygerfjord is close to Stockholm?s extensive public transport system (underground, bus and train) with easy access to Old Town, various museums, cafes, bars, live music venues and the Stockholm International Fair (Stockholmsmässan).

From Central station or the city terminal:
You can either take a taxi (5 minutes) or T-bana to Gamla stan (exit Riddarholmen) or station Mariatoget (exit Torkel Knutsson Gatan.)

A taxi would cost SEK 115-140, depending on the taxi-company you choose. We recommend taxi Stockholm, Kurir or transfer.

T-bana a single ticket is SEK 26 but you can buy a discount multiple ticket (8 tickets SEK 160).

From Arlanda airport take the airport bus to city terminal (SEK 99.)

A taxi from Arlanda to Rygerfjord is SEK 395 (ask for fixed price.)

From Skavsta airport take the airport bus to city terminal (SEK 199.)

Local parking is just outside the entrance, payable on weekdays between 9-17, free Saturday and Sunday.

By car:
From the E4 or E20, follow the signs saying "Centrum", and that will take you onto Sveavägen.

Drive 400 meters past the Hard Rock Café on the corner of Odengatan and Sveavägen, and you will see the hostel on your left, opposite the park called Observatorielunden.
There is no entry to Rehnsgatan from Sveavägen, so you will have to drive a further three blocks, and then turn left into the street called Tegnérgatan, and then take the next left into Luntmakargatan. Drive for 3 more blocks, and then turn left again into Rehnsgatan - the hostel is 50 meters away at the end of the street.

By train or bus:
From central station you can take the subway (Tunnelbanan) to the hostel.

Take the green line north for two stops until you come to the station called Rådmansgatan. Go out the exit marked "Handelshögskolan" - the Hostel is 50 meters away on the other side of the street.

By car:
From the south: The E4 through Stockholm heading north. By Järva Krog, turn left to E18 towards Enköping and Oslo. After 1 km turn right (överskottsbolaget) and then the first road to the left.
From the north: Follow the signs E18 at Järva krog, then the same as above.

By train:
Take the commutertrain(pendeltåg) towards Märsta, get off at Ulriksdal (8 min). Bus 505 or 540 towards Vällingby, stop the bus at halt Råstahem, follow the signs. You can also take a walk from Ulriksdal, just follow the signs it will take you approx 10 min.

Subway:
To Solna centrum, bus 505 to Råstahem.

Nightbus:
From Stockholm centralstation to Råstahem bus number 591.

From Arlanda Airport:
Airportshuttle from Arlanda to Järva krog, change to bus 540 to Råstahem.
Or take a bus to Märsta commutertrain-station , hop on the train towards Stockholm, get off at Ulriksdal.
