By Taxi: You can take a cab (taxi) from the train station of Alba Iulia. Alba Iulia -Ighiu shouldnt be more that 6, 7 or 8 euros, depends on the company. There are many taxi all around the city and most of them are serious companies.

Cross Alexandru Ioan Cuza Str.

By car when coming from Sibiu you have to skip Str. Lunga and wait for the third intersection between Str. Stadionului and Str. Avram Iancu. Here turn right and drive ahead for about 800 m and continue on Alexandru Ioan Cuza Str. Now look at the right side of the street and 200 m before the crossroad with Iuliu Maniu Str. you will find number 9.

The B&B is located on the side with odd numbers of Alexandru Ioan Cuza Str. at nr.9. When you arrive at the entrance open the red gate and on the right side go up on the stairs.

DIRECTIONS:

Taxi-- A ride from the train station should cost about 3 EUROS or 10 lei (as of June 2008). Use only taxis with company names on them (e.g. ATI, Martax, Tod, RO.) and make sure they turn the meter on. It is better most times to take a taxi than a bus.

Bus-- Take bus #51 from the train station to Piata Unirii. Each ticket costs 1.5 lei which you buy from a kiosk. Make sure you validate your ticket on board and WATCH FOR PICKPOCKETS!

From the #51 bus stop walk to St. Nicholas Church (in your front left), then walk up Balea Street (between the church and playground) then take the first right on to Str. Democratiei.

Hostel MARA is situated exactly in The Council Square, a big square in the heart of the old German city; in some places it is still surrounded by the original walls of the old city. Its buildings remind of the German inheritance of the region. The square is surrounded by shops, caffe shops and restaurants. Puddlers, strolling musicians and exotic gypsies give life and colour to the square.

Close to The Counsel Square there's the spiral tour of The Black Church. The black face masterpiece was built at the start of the 15th century and it took its name from the fire in 1689 which left the church black. The church can be visited even though right now it's being repaired. Occasionally the church is staging concerts of classic music. Near the Black Church there's Republicii Street - a nice place for a walk and a great opportunity for shopping. Here you can find especially handicraft shops where they sell: painted eggs, wollen carpets, wooden toys and engravings. The best view of Brasov can be seen from Tampa (the mountain top) after a trip in the funicular (daily between 10 h and 18 h excepting Mondays). You get to the funicular after a walk in the old area of the city, leaving The Counsel Square and going up the street Apollonia Hirscher.

At the end of the street Apollonia Hirscher you go left on Castelului street. Then you go right on Romer street till the end of the street where you go up the stairs that get to the funicular station. Right at the entrance there are the ruins of the old wall of the city. Going along the wall you can get to the Weaver's Bastion (it is one of the corners of the city that lasts since 1421-1436 and it houses a museum occasonally opened to the public).

If you already are in the Council Square, lokk for Hirscher str. , walk aprox.50 m up to the Scotish Pub. Here you turn left on JOHANN GOTT str. On left at no. 5A ( green old building ) is HOSTEL MARA.

1. Access via Bran-Moeciu
From the main train station (Gara Centrala- Brasov) take bus 23 from the bus stop, in the front of the railway station. At the fifth bus stop -Stadionul Tineretului-you get off, and cross the street to the bus terminal-Autogara Codreanu-where you take the bus to Moeciu.
There you can get a bus to Moeciu, at almost every1/2 hour.

Once you are in the bus, you have to get off at the last stop. The ride takes about 45 minutes, and it costs about 1euro.
From there you could contact us for transfer (by car 4x4, or by cart with horse), or by walking on Valea Zbircioarei, until you?ll find an arrow -Spre Satul Magura-near a little bridge before the Hotel Acvila .After that point you just follow the forest road, and walk about 3km, until you find a board inscripted Magura.There is Villa Park, at 20 m.
For faster access, you can find the short path, and you can avoid walking all the way on the forest road. The shortpath goes under the electricity line, straight to the hill, until you reach near cellphone Antena Pilons.From there you meet again the road, and you are close to Villa Park.

Coming by taxi from Brasov, it should cost you between 80-100Ron with Martax, (avoid the private taxi drivers!!!)!!!!!!

2. Access via Risnov-Zarnesti
From the main train station you have motor train to Risnov-Zarnesti which takes about 35minutes and will cost you less than 1euro.You get off at the end of line in Zarnesti and the easiest way to reach at Magura- Villa Park from Zarnesti, is to take a taxi(cheap in Romania).The ride takes about 30min and costs you about 25-30Ron which means 2euro for each, if you are 4persons.Do NOT PAY THE TAXI UPON ARRIVAL!!!

The Midland 1 sleeps 22, in 2 rooms:

Orange (10 bed room) is darker and quieter, it is the best choice for late or light sleepers.It faces North.

Red (12 bed room) gives onto the main street which makes it a bit noisier and it also is a little brighter than Orange, because it faces South.


Things to keep in mind:
We have had some comments from guests regarding the following issues, so we are just trying to make them clear for everyone

-Smoking is IS ALLOWED in the kitchen/common area.
-There is air conditioning in all rooms but it is not ON all the time , if you need it , you just have to ask the staff to turn it on.

1. From the Train station (the "Gara de Nord" train station)

By bus - Take bus no. 85 for 6 stops, get off at the 6th stop (in front of a McDonalds^?). Our hostel is 1 minute away, up the street, above the "Heaven Night Club"( just continue walking up the street in the direction the bus is going and you will see the night club?s sign on the left side of the street , on the 2nd floor.That is actually our balcony )

By subway- Take the M1 subway line from the "Gara de Nord" station for one stop, to "Piata Victoriei". Change to the M2 subway line and take the next subway for 2 stops, to the "Universitatate" stop. From there, you will have a 3 minutes walk to the hostel.
OR
- Take the M1 subway line for 6 stops to the ?Izvor? stop.You will have a 10 minutes walk to the hostel from there.
By taxi - it is pretty close to the train station, so a taxi shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes and 6 RON (=1.8 euro)

2. From the "Henri Coanda"airport and "Baneasa" airport.

By bus - take the Express Bus no 783 to the "Piata 21 Dec 1989" stop. You will have a 3 minutes walk from there to the hostel.

Get the tickets from the ticket booth, BEFORE you get on the bus.

By taxi - we don't advise you to take one, because it is definitely not good value for money. Despite this, if you want to take a cab, it shouldn't charge you more than 50 RON (=15 euro).

LANDMARK: "HEAVEN NIGHT CLUB".WE DON'T HAVE A LIGHT SIGN YET, BUT WHEN YOU HAVE FOUND OUR BUILDING (NO. 30), (THERE IS A "BANK TRANSILVANIA" ON THE GROUND FLOOR) GO IN THE NIGHT CLUB ENTRANCE, AND WE?RE ON THE 1ST FLOOR, ABOVE THE CLUB.


N.B. There is another no. 30 on this street, it is a shoe shop.If any taxi driver takes you there just ask him to go back towards the University and leave you in front of the bank Transilvania.That's the no. 30 that you need to find.

The air conditioning is available only in the lobby, but is helping to cool the rooms also.

It is very easy to reach the hostel if you travel by train:

- 700m from the Train Station Gara de Nord. As soon as you leave the train, head towards the end of the train tracks, and where the rail tracks end just keep going on the same directions along the central hallway. You will arrive in front of the main exit/entrance of Gara de Nord: turn right under the tall columns and go ahead, along the Witing Street. At the end, you have to turn left on Plevnei St. and then left again on Mircea Vulcanescu (former Stefan Furtuna St). The hostel is the first house on the left. The whole walk will be 5-10 minutes and it makes no sense to take a cab or any public transportation.

The hostel could be reached also from some other variants, depending on your needs:

- From 30m to 200m from the hostel, there are the stations of various public transportation vehicles (busses 123, 133 and trolley-busses: 62, 71, 85, 93, 96)
- At 900m there is another Eroilor Metro Station (see the map for directions to the hostel).

- From the Otopeni Airport you may reach our hostel in 2 ways:

1. by taxi - I would advice you to take Fly taxi - it is better then any other offer of private taxi driver. If they use the meter, then the total cost to our hostel should be approx. 60RON.
If you have the possibility to order a cab from a mobile phone, you may call the number of the Taxi 2000 Company: 0040219494.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In case you decide for a taxi, make sure they don't try to cheat on you. Check the price of the taxi - it is usually displayed on the door of the taxi and confirm it with the taxi driver, also confirm with him that he will use the meter. Whatever you negotiate, make sure you don't pay more that 100RON (approx. 30EURO).

2. by bus - there is the express bus 783 (2 trips ticket = 5RON), it is leaving every 15 minutes during week days and every 30 minutes during week-ends, from around 5.00 a.m. up to 11:00 p.m. You should leave the buss at the Piata Romana ( Romana Square ) and get a taxi to the hostel - if they use the meter should be about 5RON.

In case you arrive before 11.00p.m. in Bucharest , you may leave the express bus 783 at the Universtiy Square (Piata Universitatii) and take the trolleybus to the Station Mircea Vulcanescu. From the Station you go ahead for 20m the same direction the trolleybus was going and turn right at the corner. On the corner there is a church and the first house after the church is the hostel - it is very close to the trolleybus station, like 1 minute walk.

Another possibility is to leave the bus 783 at Piata Victoriei ( Victoria Square ) and get the metro to Gara de Nord station. From there you walk to the hostel as above described.
You can also walk from Piata Victoriei, by taking Street Calea Buzesti and then turn right on Mircea Vulcanescu. This will take about 20-30 minutes.

From the Baneasa Airport you can reach the hostel by public transportation in a few different ways:
- from the airport you take the bus 131 to Piata Victoriei and from there u can take the metro to Gara de Nord (this is the main train station). From here there is a 5-7 minutes walk to the hostel (in case you choose this variant, print the map included here and follow the instructions.
- or you can get off the 131 bus at Piata Romana (this is the end of this bus line, one station further from Piata Victoriei). From here you can walk to the hostel directly, taking Dacia Boulevard against the crossing with Calea Victoriei (this is one of the main Boulevards in Bucharest). If you walk straight ahead on Dacia against Calea Victoriei, after the crossing with Victoriei, you will reach another crossing with Calea Grivitei - this is where the Mircea Vulcanescu St. starts, going along the same direction as Dacia.
So, from Piata Romana (taking the right direction) you will only go straight, following the street and you will reach the hostel. There are less than 2km (about 25 minutes walk - in case you don't mind to walk, it is a good option).
- or, you take the bus 105 to Romexpo station and from there take 205 to Gara de Nord. From here you walk (same as explained above).
- there is also the express bus 783 coming from the main airport (Otopeni / Henry Coanda), which has a stop at Baneasa airport too. With this, you can go to the station University (Piata Universitatii) and from here you take the trolleybus 85 in the direction of Gara de Nord. You get off the bus at the Station MIRCEA VULCANESCU. When you get off the bus, you have to walk in the same direction as the bus was moving for another 10-20m and, at the corner of the street you turn right on the Mircea Vulcanescu St.. The hostel is the first house on the left side, 1 minute away from the station. The bus 783 is coming at every approx. 20min and it may be a little more difficult to find the station (check across the main street in front of the airport) and then make sure to take the trolleybus 85 in the correct direction.

For 783 you find ticket in the bus. For the others you may find the place for tickets in / near airport (ask in the airport).

Bucharest is not a dangerous city, just make sure you have control over your pockets (don't keep values in the back pockets that you cannot see) and backpack (keep it in front of you in the bus) - especially in the bus.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no sign of Friends Hostel on the building yet, but you will see the street name and number written on it.

Take BUS number 282 from the train station as follows:

As soon as you leave the train, head towards the end of the tracks, just where the rail tracks end go straight and exit the main building. From there, turn left and cross the big street towards the bus stop - there is also a ticket booth there and it's in front of an OMV petrol Station.

Get off the bus at the 7th station called Piata Domenii. In the bus, the stations are not announced, so please just count them until the 7th station, NOT including the one you enter the bus.

Leave the bus towards the back of the bus, cross the big street (called ION MIHALACHE) on the pedestrian crossing and then turn left on the sidewalk of the opposite side of the broad road.

Cross a little street, pass a big orange building on your right side and then enter to the right the next street called STR. DUMITRU ZOSIMA.

The hostel is on the left side after 50m, you will see a white garden wall and a door arch with BUTTERFLY VILLA written on it.

The complete walk from the bus is not more than 150m.

Before you enter the bus or the tram, you need to buy a valid ticket (1.3 new Lei = 0, 35 Euros = 0.45 $). Look for booths with 'RATB' label to get some. In front of the train station you will find one also written 'BILETE' on them.

The taxis at the main train station are mostly private drivers and you are in danger to get ripped off, so disregard any taxi offers in and outside the train station and take the bus or the tram during the daytime until around 11 in the night.

If you arrive in the night we offer to PICK YOU UP for 3 Euros per car, please write to us or call us, we will arrange the transport...

If you really want to go with the challenge of taking a taxi then please head straight out of the train station and turn left towards the metro station ( a big M sign). The taxis there (and only there) have a company written on them (Taxi 2000, Cobalcescu, Leone, Cristaxi, Meridian, Domino) and these bring you to the hostel for a reasonable price.

Please make sure, that the price for the km (written on the left and right of the taxi near the door) is not more than 2.0 new Lei (or 20, 000 old Lei) per KM. If unsure, please CALL US, we will assist you. But as said before, better take our pickup service or take a bus as described above...


FROM THE AIRPORT(S):

Bucharest has 2 airports, one in the city called BANEASA (the cheap airlines usually go there) and another one called HENRI COANDA (or the old name OTOPENI, OTP on your ticket).

If you arrive at the Henri Coanda (or OTOPENI) airport, it is best to call us or write to us and WE PICK YOU UP for (15 Euros per car)
A taxi is possible as well, but please make sure, that you only take Fly-Taxi form the airport. The Ride is about 15 to 20 Euros, since the Airport is about 15km outside of the city.
!!!! ATTENTION !!!!!! Usually in OTP there are guys hanging around the terminal building offering (or better say insisting on) a taxi ride to the city, even having some kind of official looking badge around their neck...
YOU WILL END UP PAYING 50 EUROS, SO DON'T BOTHER, JUST IGNORE THESE GUYS!!!!! If you really want to take a taxi, walk out of the building and enter one of the waiting FLY-TAXI.


If you arrive at BANEASA airport, we offer to pick you up for 10 Euros per car, just let us know... A Taxi is NOT recommended from Baneasa, since you may end up with a private driver (see above) and pay way too much.
As an alternative, you can take the bus number 205 and leave the bus on the second station AFTER you see the ARC DE TRIUMPH (Looks like the one in Paris, white, huge arch)..

The easiest way to find us is to ask for Saint Michael's Catholic Church. Walking up Universitatii Street, take the second right onto Potaissa street.
If you're coming from the railway station, take tram no. 101 or 102 and get off at Baritiu street (the second stop). From here, follow Regele Ferdinand street (formerly Gh. Goja) until you reach Saint Michael's Church. Another option is to take bus no. 9 at the train station and get off at the 3rd station, in the city center.
If you choose to take a taxi, please note that the official companies like PRITAX, TERRA&FAN or DIESEL will charge you no more than 1.5 euro from the train station or 5 ?uros from the airport. Avoid any private transport offers at the train station or at the airport; many of them charge more than the regular rates.

The first pub is just across the street from our hostel in the heart of the city, where the hostel staff also joins the party on Mondays and Sundays.
2. Are you thirsty to know more? Let?s talk about culture and history; did you know that Cluj-Napoca was built by the Romans, conquered by Hungarians and was ruled by Austrians? Let?s see if you can find the marks they left on this city. Just to see what we mean, one of the greatest kings of Hungary (Matei Corvin) was born in a house that?s only 5 minutes away from our hostel. We can show you his Childhood house. You may see him in all his glory on the statue in front of the Catholic Church.
3. Beauty was celebrated in all times, around the corner is one of the palaces of the Noble Family of Bamfy, and inside is the Art Museum, where you can admire paintings and expositions. The Pharmaceutical Museum, Ethnographical and Transylvanian Museum are all within 5 minutes? reach.
4. Exotic flowers, green plants and fresh air are available for nature lovers in the biggest Botanical Garden of south-eastern Europe. If you are looking for a little bit of knowledge about people and the land, the Village Museum gives you the opportunity to admire the evolution of our society and rural architecture on one of the hills of Cluj-Napoca.
5. Winter sports friends can also visit us, we have three skate rinks, a small ski slope in Cluj, and a bigger one 50 kilometers away. Nearby there are mountains, lakes and spectacular canyons.
6. For a one day tour outside the city, we propose a visit to the salt mines that reach 13 levels below the ground. Did you know that here you can hear your voice echoing 16 times? That?s something worth trying. The salt mine is also beneficial for children, but not only due to the curative effect the salty air has on their lungs. We have also great cliffs in that area and salty lakes in which you can just float around in summer and enjoy the sun.

From the train station, cross the street and take bus number 3 or 4. Get off at the third stop (the Orthodox Cathedral or ??white church?? stop). Go to the front of the Cathedral. When facing the stairs, you can see Iuliu Maniu Street on your left hand side. It should take 15-20 minutes by bus. By taxi, it should not take more than 10-15 minutes.
If you want to go by foot from the train station, walk down Horia Street toward the River Somes. Cross the bridge and walk straight ahead until you see the Catholic Church (the ??brown one??). Go to the front of the Matei Corvin?s statue, face it, and then you will see Luliu Maniu Street on your right hand side. You can also recognise the street because it starts between two buildings that look the same. Iului Maniu is also nicknamed the ??Mirror Street??. By foot it should take 30 minutes.

The best way to reach us is by foot, due to the traffic system in the city centre.
Head on Mai street until the end on it, for 500m, after that on Faurului street - 150m; at the corner with Turnului Street, turn left for 30m, then right and you are on Mos Ion Roata street, where you can find our two story house on the right side after another 50m, after 10 minutes walk from the station.

From the airport:
Best is to take a taxi (it will be about 10 lei / 3 Euro, and will take from 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the traffic). Also, you can take bus no. 11 to the Banatului Street (the ticket costs 1.5 lei/one way, but there is no ticket shop at the airport). After that turn left on Victoriei Street for 100m and head to the pedestrian area of the city (N. Balcescu Street). This will take you into the Piata Mare (Large Square). Turn left just after you enter in this square and forward for another 100m, until you'll see the Stairs Passage. Go downhill on this passage (50m) and turn First Street left. Now you are on our hostel street (Mos Ion Roata Street) where you find the Old John Wheeler hostel on the right side at no.9.

This is a very nice hostel set in a quiet garden in a very rural community. The hostel is close to all the town facilities including shops bars and restaurants. It has a bar-b-Q area in the garden plus chairs for guests to relax in away from the summer sun. Besides the dorm bed rooms there is also a room for relaxation where guests can watch local and cable TV. This is a no smoking in the hostel but guests can smoke on the verandas and in the garden if they are considerate of others feelings. We are very convenient for buss to all the local villages and sites of interest while the political prison museum is within easy walking distance.

You should come and visit Sighet the town is a bit dusty in the summer and very cold in the winter but it is a place you can always find some where to suit you.

High Class Hostel has a new location beginning with October 2007. We are now on a quiet street in a residential area just 10 min walk from the city center of Suceava. The new address is Mihai Eminescu Street 19, Suceava 720183.

Suceava is one of the main cities of Romania, so there are many trains arriving here from other main cities in the country: Brasov, Cluj, Bucharest, Iasi, Timisoara... We advise you to take a Rapid / InterCity^? train which is fast and comfortable. Get off the train at SUCEAVA railway station (known by local people as BURDUJENI railway station (pronounced boor-doo-geni) or at SUCEAVA NORD train station (local people know it as ITCANI - pronounced eets-kan).
When you get to either Suceava (BURDUJENI) or Suceava Nord (ITCANI) train station, please jump on bus no. 2 or 5. Pay 1.5 lei per person per trip onboard. In each bus there is somebody who sells bus tickets. You cannot buy a bus ticket outside the bus. Get off at McDonald^?'s and from there you can either call or text message to the mobile no: 0040 (0) 723 78 23 28 and we'll come to pick you up. It is very easy to walk to the hostel from McDonald^?'s, it won't take you more than 10 min.Stand Backwards to MsDonald^?'s and walk up on Nicolae Balcescu Street until the round about. Here there are 4 streets. You take the 2nd street clockwise from your left. Walk up until you see a big fairly ugly 3 stories tall building which is known by local people as "BAIA COMUNALA" (there used to be a sauna here, hence the name). On this building you can see a big advertisement saying "TRANS DMV EUROPA". There is also another small sign saying "OPTIMEDIA". Here you turn left and walk another 100m: the hostel is a white and purple house on your left hand side.

From the BUS STATION:

Stand backwards to the sign of Atlassib and walk the street to the right: now you are at the round about, where the road splits in 4 directions (from a different street this time), take the 3rd one clockwise from your left. Walk up until you see a big fairly ugly 3 stories tall building which is known by local people as "BAIA COMUNALA" (there used to be a sauna here, hence the name). On this building you can see a big advertisement saying "TRANS DMV EUROPA". There is also another small sign saying "OPTIMEDIA".
