Getting around. The centre of Agadir is best explored on foot. A car is recommended for exploring the surrounding areas.

It is a town house structure with 4 floors, including roof terrace with views of the Atlantic just 200m away. A car may be parked very close to the house with no problems. The house provides easy access to the Medina and other parts of the town of Asilah, and an immersion in traditional Moroccan life in a laid-back, 'no hassle' place.

The house is available for holiday rental all year, weekly, for the weekend or by the day. A fully equipped kitchen diner provides the necessary facilities for a self-catering holiday in a traditional setting. All linens, towels and cleaning are included, and the house has washing machine.

An English-speaking Moroccan assistant meets guests at the town gates. He can provide any necessary information and assistance with any practical or linguistic problem.

Asilah is a smallish, very pretty fishing town 45 Km south of Tangier on the Atlantic coast, and is accessible within 30 mins by taxi from Tangier airport. Its location provides a good base for excursions to Tangier itself, but is much more tranquil than, as well as Chefchaouen and Tetouan further a field. Great Atlantic beaches are located just to the south and to the north of the town.

Compared to the bustle of Tangier, it presents a tranquil alternative way to experience Morocco, without the hassle. The ancient (15th century) Portuguese walls, with ramparts and canons, still surround the core of the old town (the Medina), and the houses, whitewashed and painted in the Mediterranean blue and turquoise, are traditional in style. Road traffic is limited outside the town walls, and everything is easily reached on foot.

In August each year, the town hosts the Asilah Culural Festival, celebrating the tradition of mural painting and plastic arts.

Tangier is just 9 miles from Spain (Tarifa), and is served by ferries from Tarifa and Algeciras. The fast ferry from Tarifa takes 35 mins and the longer one from Algeciras about 2 hours.

Tangier airport (called Ibn Batouta Airport, formerly Boukhalef Airport, airport code TNG) is connected by flights from major cities in Europe, including London, Paris, Madrid, Brussels among others, and via low-cost airlines such as easy Jet & Atlas Blue (part of Royal Air Maroc) ; flight times from London are about 2 ¼ hours, from Madrid about 1 ¼ hours. From Tangier airport, Asilah is only about 35 Km distant, and can be reached by taxi, or rental car.

Asilah has a train station 1 Km outside of town, a major motorway connecting the north and south of the country, and bus and taxi stations.

What can we do there?

What trekking gear will I need?

The most important is to have a good pair of walking shoes or boots for longer more strenuous walks that give good ankle support. Walking boots are recommended but many people trek the Atlas in trainers during the summer months. Ideally you should have a set of waterproofs (yes, even in summer) and these can be borrowed from the guest house Ouassaggou if required.


Day excursion from Marrakech:

For those wishing to spend a day in the Atlas Mountains and experience the true spirit of the Berber way of life, the guest house Ouassaggou is open to non-residents. A full lunch is provided at the hotel. This day out also lets you take a walk in the mountains or take a mule to a local village. A unique experience and a day you will always remember.

Route A:
Departing from the South East corner of the infamous Jemaa Al Fna square, take the busy pedestrian and shopping street Riad Zitoun El Kdim towards the Badii Palace. On the way, make your way across the Ferblantiers (tinsmiths) square and walk through Bab (gate) Berrima.
Follow Berrima street, which runs along the high outer walls of the Royal Palace. The street is also known as "stork alley"; note the numerous stork nests crowning the top of the walls. They migrate from as far away as central Europe. Just before arriving at the Berrima Mosque with its characteristically curved parking lot, make a left; 2 small consecutive grocery stores with gas canisters displayed signal the entrance of the street.
After a couple of twists in this local pedestrian alley, you will find the Riad Khabia thanks to its massive door flanked by two small palm trees in earthen pots.

Route B:
From the renowned Koutoubia Mosque or the Place de Foucault, drive down Houman El Fetouaki avenue, which is in the continuity of Mohammed VI avenue.
Arriving at the Ferblantiers square, the rest of the way is identical to the above mentioned route.

HOW TO GET THERE:

Two main points are the reference when arriving at la Medina :

Djemaa el-Fna and the Bab Ksour.

During the day, the taxis or cars are not allowed to drive through Djemaa el-Fna square, so they will probably leave your at Bab Ksour, once you are there, just cross the door, and go ahead the street ?Rue Side el Yamani? during aprox. 5 minutes, this is a calm street with not many shops. After a while, the market shops will start, the street will became covered and in a few meters you will be in a cross section, just at your right there is a another door, this is Derb el Hamman street, our street, get into it, you?ll pass the Mouassine Mosque, and then at the left hand side of the street there is our door.

At night, cars and taxis can drive you to the place Djemaa el-Fna, so you should ask for the corner where the ?cafe argana? is. Take the street next to it, you are in Mouassine Street and go ahead until it became wider. Then, just when you see a shop at your left of electronic things, at your right starts a small covered street, take it, we are just at the end.

If you arrive at the airport, the bus will leave you at the Djemaa el-Fna place, and if you arrive with train at ONCF train station, take the bus number 8 to Djemaa el-Fna.

Persons under the age of 18 years are only allowed to stay in private rooms or dormitory rooms that are booked for use of one family or group of persons, and can not share dormitory rooms with other guests. People under 18 years old must travel with their parents or legal tutor.

The Peace of the Medina

From the heart of Marrakech, the Djemma al Fna, you follow a lane that escapes from the colorful souqs (bazaars) through a labyrinth of alleyways full of enticing entrances to hidden hideaways. The hustle and bustle of the square ceases as you wind your way to the riad?s entrance at the end of the lane. There, in the quiet, historic residential district, you will find an enchanting house lovingly restored with respect to the traditional Moroccan style, yet with all the modern conveniences.

Inside the riad there are five beautifully decorated ensuite guest rooms spread over two levels, surrounding a courtyard with a central calming water feature, dining tables and chairs, and an open study/sitting room with a huge fireplace for cooler evenings. On the first floor there is a summer sitting room with settees adorned with colorful Moroccan cushions. Above that is the open-air roof terrace where a continental breakfast is served daily; there is also a hamman (steam room) and hot and cold tub.

Hammam, Massages, Gourmet Meals (to order)

When you return to the riad, you can make use of our private hamman to have a whole-body exfoliation or relaxing massage, either on your own or with a partner (unlike the public hammams in Marrakech, which are segregated for men and women).
Whether in the courtyard, the summer salon or on the rooftop terrace, you will be able to taste the delightful preparations of our in-house chef, who will gladly prepare an exquisite evening meal for you on request.

We are always available to advise you about anything regarding your stay in Marrakech, and if you wish we can also organize activities or excursions to places of interest, such as treks in the High Atlas by horseback, four-wheel drive or motorbike.

By taxi:
Ask the cab driver to drop you off by the ?No entry? sign at the bottom of the Dar el Bacha street (the street of the antique dealers), near the police sentry box. Follow the Dar el Bacha to a four-way crossing. Take the street to the left that looks like a dead end and is covered over by reed mats, where you will see a stucco-framed, engraved door that is the entrance to the mausoleum of Sidi Abdelaziz.
As you walk up this street, take the first left on Derb Ouayhah, about 50m. Follow the derb, always turning right around several corners. You will see no. 19 on your right at the end of the lane.

From Place Djemma al Fna:
Go in the direction of the mosque of Mouassine, passing by the small place of Bab Fteuh. Go around the mosque and turn right after 30m. Go left at the Flêchage Arab Coffee and continue to a four-way crossing. Take the street almost opposite, which is covered over with reed mats and looks like a dead end. You will see an engraved stucco door marking the entrance to the mausoleum of Sidi Abdelaziz; go up this street. After 50m, take the first left onto Derb Ouayhah. Keep turning right as you follow the Derb around several corners, until you come to no. 19 on the right at the end of the derb.

From the souq:
Follow through the souq until you come to the Derb Ouayhah on your left. Turn down this lane and keep turning right until you come to no. 19 on your right at the end of the lane:

We work with a few reliable car rental firms offering reasonable prices (35 to 45 ? per day, according to season).

The journey from the airport costs 30 Euros and we have free transfer every day to the city.

We are only a 15 Min by Car to the city center.

The journey from the airport is 30 min and for the bus and the train station 15 min by car.

Normally we arrange the transfer for them, the costumer should gives us details flights and we will be there for him (we have a luxury car with full option), they can have the public transport too.

There is no bus from the airport; there is taxi and luxury car.

Public Taxi?s from the airport cost 20-30 Euros and our luxurious bus (air con, big seats, toilets) cost 30 Euros and is the easiest and safest ride in Marrakech.

Marrakech airport (Ménara) is about seven kms from the Djemaa seat el-Fná. You can take the number 11 to it or get one of the taxis that are usually parked on the main plaza. If you getting a taxi, watch out for the "nocturnal" tarifs. They can be as much as 50% off the official price. Check first. These nocturnal prices are a bit of an enigma, as they're not actually posted anywhere in the taxi. Only the taxi driver and the locals know about them. This often causes bad feelings between the driver and unsuspecting visitor. Take care.

Basically, the final price should be more or less 60 dh. This is normally negotiable. Once you learn how to bargain with the Moroccans things will be a lot easier and there'll be no hard feelings.

From the International Port of Tangier take a blue petit taxi and ask for Dar

Baroud, this should cost between 20-30 Dirhams and take under 10 minutes. As you

pass the gateway to the Hotel Continental ask your driver to turn immediately left

into a small square and stop. Descend. Cross the small square and take the steps

down and continue straight ahead into Rue Mohammed Bergach. Dar Jameel is

No.6, the third doorway on the right. Alternatively, leave the Port on foot, turn right

and second right again, walk up the hill, carry on straight ahead entering the

Medina through a small archway, after 5 minutes you see the entrance to the Hotel

Continental on your right. Proceed as outlined above. The walk from the port takes

15-20 minutes. From the International Airport take a taxi to Dar Baroud, Medina,
