We have 8 rooms for the guests. Rooms are quite spacious (above 12'x14') with attached western style WC. All the rooms are air conditioned and are planned so that there is enough fresh air and sunlight. We have 24 hours running cold/hot water. Rooms are designed very tasteful using teakwood and the furniture also . The Curtains, Cushion pillow and Bed Cover have been made rich Broacade Silk

My wife Madhu, an excellent cook (They say that way to man's heart goes through his stomach.) and has gardening as a hobby. She has won several prizes and won recognition in garden competitions organized by the city of Agra.

Alright, Lets start from the beginning. The Nest is a residential homestay guesthouse that opened its doors to International tourists in the fall of 2001. Starting out with just 2 basic rooms, with hard work and honest service we were pretty soon listed in International guide booksfor travellers.

The family run business is headed by myself Johnson Gilbert, a former Disc Jockey and music shop owner. We have now expanded to 5 spacious beautiful rooms all ensuite, and with balconeys/terrace. The balconies give another dimension to the rooms - they are beautifully laid with flowering fragrant creepers that cover not only them but also the rooms. Sitting out there in the balcony/terrace and having dinner, sipping tea, or beginning the day with breakfast is a very relaxing and adds more value to your room. All the balconies /terrace overlook the garden which boasts a lawn, various flowering fragrant jasmine, henna tree, pineapple plants and an exotic collection of flowering orchids.

Tourism in Alleppey is booming, better roads, cleaner surroundings, and most of all, for tourists - the beautification of the South and North inland canals makes it a town where the tourist can stay for a week or more - great for walks with friendly people and green unpolluted air. And if it's for the backwaters that you're coming for (which is what Alleppey is in the tourist map for), well, we have a beautiful houseboat of our own, perhaps the biggest one bedroom houseboat in Kerala. And definitely the best in service.

We've also added another dimension to tourism in Alleppey by discovering and promoting the Secret Beach. This beach is located about 25 minutes drive from the Nest, in a secluded fishing village away from the tourist trail. Our friend's guesthouse there has great Kerala food, and 3 basic rooms. If the beach does not do it for you, check out the Snake Temple, a centuries old temple about 40 minutes drive from the Nest. This temple is unique in that the religious rites there are headed by women. An enchanting place surrounded by very old trees , very woody, almost surreal atmostphere.

At the Nest, we take pride in providing honest service. It's a home where the guests are made to feel at home, where the guest and host can interact, learn about each other's differnt cultures, lifestyles, traditions, habits, etc. And in doing so, foster understanding and tolerance between peoople of different nations. Ultimately, hopefully, take a small but important step in making the world a better place for you and me - and our children.

The antique wooden structures ?Ara? and ?Nilavara? which were originally used for storing grains have been restored for modern living as per the principles of ?Vaastu Sastra? [The Indian Architectural Principles]. The restoration doesn?t tamper with all the 100 years of history that it carries within its wooden walls.

Our ?Ara? - converted guest rooms are beautifully furnished and the solid wooden doors facing the river are no barriers in experiencing an exotic home-stay holiday, spiced up with typical Kerala hospitality. The windows and doors open to the paddy fields, the river and the garden allowing excellent ventilation and enchanting views from within the rooms. All our quest rooms are well furnished with two large single beds, wardrobe, writing table and chair. The floor is finished in ?thara odu? (mud tile) which has healing as well as preventive power on ?arthritis?. The terra cotta tiled roof and the wooden attic along with the wooden walls provide effective cooling. There is also a small verandah running around each room.
At Pamba heritage everything is traditional except for the ultra modern attached toilets and bathrooms. Enjoy the novel experience of bathing in the ?open?.

The way and pace of life at the villa is decided entirely by you ? laze in a hammock with a book, take moonlit walks along the river, or simply immerse yourself in the water and feel the gentle ripples against your skin. For the more active amongst you ? get an insight into the Kerala way of life ? see the traditional paddy harvesting, go on a fishing trip and interact with the local fishermen, watch tapping and taste it, or simply stroll around the plantain and coconut groves, local landmarks, temples and markets. Ayurveda and Kerala are synonymous ? on special requests, get a relaxing massage.
Try fishing with the fishing rod in our pond or in the Pamba River. You can also engage yourself in various indoor and outdoor games according to your liking. You can make a village tour and see for yourself, life in a typical Kuttanad (this is one of the places in world where farming is done below the sea level) village, visit the world famous snake boat, you can even take a dip in the river Pamba and feel how the body and mind relaxes.
