The Erato Backpackers Hostel is in the centre of Aghia marina. Take the ferry or hydrofoil from Piraeus harbor (Athens) to Aegina Island, there are ferries to Aegina which leave every half an hour. After departing jump on the bus that leaves every hour, this should take approx. 25 minutes. To A.g. Marina there are 3 ferries a day from Piraeus one at 9.30am, 2.30pm and then 5.30pm Monday to Thursday extended times from Friday to Sunday. From the port walk straight up the hill, turn left, walk 200 meters until you see our sign! You can?t miss us!

It is difficult to find else where such a beautiful natural harmony as the one you find on the island of Aegina. The bay of Agia Marinam, being on the east side of the island is the most representative place of that harmony.
The clean blue water of the sea meets the pine trees which roll down the hills to the golden sandy beach. On one of these hills the ancient Greeks, who always knew how to choose the most beautiful site built the temple of Aphaia in 480 B.C. It is a Doric temple, the most perfect of all the architectural constructions on the late archaic period. From this temple you can look down over the whole bay of Agia Marina, a site justly famous for its view and beautiful surroundings.
The hotel is only 50 meters from the golden beach and is suitable for children.

Near the port of Aegina is located a very stylish neoclassical traditional hotel painted in brick red. The building was built in the 1700's and very much smaller than it is today. It was renovated and built bigger in the beginning of the 1900's, and that's when it acquired its neoclassical style. In general it is a building combined with educated and traditional island factors
The ground floor of the traditional building looks into 2 courtyards which are built in such a way that there is always shade decorated with built in stone seats and various old traditional pieces of furniture. The rooms therefore overlooking the courtyards are much simpler giving you the feeling of island's simplicity rather than the heavy classy rooms on the 1st floor with its high painted ceilings...
The building is made of stone and the most characteristic point of the building is its magnificent painted ceilings which highly decorate the living room and some of the rooms upstairs (1st floor).

The hotel has 9 rooms and one suite made of two double rooms, all of which have private W.C. and shower, central heating for the winter and air-conditioning for the summer and TV.

It is open all year round. The island is only 18 miles from the port of Piraeus, 1, 15 hours by ferry boat and 35 minutes by hydrofoil.

The closest airport to Aegina is located in Athens. The airport named Eleftherios Venizelos is the new airport of Athens, which has been opened since March 2001. It's located about 25 kms outside of the centre of Athens in the area of Spata.

When you leave the airport you can take a special shuttle bus (E96) to the Port of Piraeus. This leaves from outside the arrivals hall (Gates 4 and 5) every thirty minutes, 24 hours a day. The price of the ticket is about ? 2.90 (At night the price can be slightly more) and is valid for 24 hours. You can use this ticket on the bus, trolley bus or the metro. The trip will take about 1 hour and fifteen minutes (Depending on the traffic!)

You can also take a taxi from the airport to Piraeus. This should be a bit quicker than the bus but is, of course, dependent on the traffic. The price will be about ? 30. The starting price with toll fee is between ? 0.75 and ? 2.94. At night they charge ? 1.74 a km extra.

From Piraeus there are several ferries that go to Aegina and also the Flying Dolphin hydrofoils and a Fast Catamaran service. All of these go to Aegina Town, but there is a catamaran type boat that leaves from the same area at Piraeus, and goes direct to Aghia Marina. Timetables are displayed on the various Ticket Offices on the quay.

When you arrive...

The office at the Athens Studios is open from 8 am to 12 noon every day; if you are arriving at a different time, please pick up your swipe cards from the Athens Backpackers (12 Makri Street) at three minutes walk from the Studios: Walk up Veikou Street to the Acropolis metro station, turn to the right into Ath. Diachou, walk another 30 meters and then turn left into Makri Street. You will see the Athens Backpackers on your left side.
(Directions also available from the studio front door!)

With the metro:
From the Airport or 'Pireas', change at 'Syntagma Square?, for the red line and go one station down line to 'Acropoli'. As you leave the metro you are in Marigyianni St, walk down it, away from the Acropolis which you can see as you arrive.

At the traffic lights, cross over taking the right fork downhill, Veikou St and we are the third building down. The walk is no more than a few minutes.

With the bus: Take the airport bus to 'Syntagma Square', jump on the metro (red line) and go one station to 'Acropoli'. If you arrive after 11.50pm when the metro shuts and before it opens at 5.30am, walk down Amalias or Fillelinon towards the Plaka until you come to a wide pedestrian walkway called Dionysios Aerophagitou, turn right into it (it leads to the Acropolis) take the third street on your left and you are in Makrigyianni St, see above directions.

To reach Hotel Moka which is located in the center of Athens you must keep in mind that you need about 50 minutes as you are 25km away.

The Airport is located at a suburb of Attica called Spata.
First choose if you like bus, train or taxi.

The easy way:
For those that have a lot of luggage with them the taxi is the easiest solution as you won?t have to drag everything around. The taxi should cost about 40 euros to reach the center except if it is after 00:00 and until 06:00 am, after this it will cost more as there is a night fee added.

Be careful! Most taxi drivers will try to overcharge you, charging you the ride per person. This is illegal. The price is per ride even if you are 4 people! If you feel that something is wrong about what he is telling you ask him to drive you to the nearest tourist police to ask. He won?t get into the trouble in doing so but he will know that he can?t fool you!

Runs 24 hours.(Time 35-40 minutes)

The cheapest way.
The cheapest way is to take the bus. The ticket costs about 3 euros and the number of the bus is X95. The bus will take you from the Airport to Syntagma Square. From there the easiest way to reach Hotel Moka is by taking the Metro to Omonia Square.

Get off and find 3rd September Street. Walk until you meet Stournari Street (5 blocks) and then turn left. The service runs 24 hours. (Time 50 minutes depending on traffic.)

The quickest way is to take the metro directly to the airport (blue line) towards Syntagma Square. Change trains (red line) and reach Omonia Square.
Get off and find 3rd Septemner Street. Walk until you meet Stournari Street (5 blocks) and then turn left. Just look across. You ticket costs 6 euros per person and you can move around with all public transportation for 24 hours. Runs from 05:25 until 00:20 (Time 40 minutes.)

The Suburban way.
You can also take the Suburban railway but there seems to make repairs on the lines and sometimes the train is cancelled. Nevertheless it is the only train that runs 24 hours.

Coming by car.
It depends from where you are coming from.(North, South, East, and West.)
Coming from the port of Pireaus.
Take the Subway from Pireaus until Omonia Square.(20 minutes). Get off and find 3rd Septemner Street. Walk until you meet Stournari Street (5 blocks) and then turn left. Just look across. Your ticket costs 0.60 euros per person .Runs from 05:25 until 00:20
