The history of the castle situated on the Latvian border begins in the 16th century, when it belonged to the von Rehbinders. Its Estonian name, Takelberg or Tagaper, originates from the von Stackelbergs(1694- 1796). The castle ensemble that has been preserved until today dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. After the fire 1904, Squire Hugo von Stryck had built that is one on the biggest and most impressive art nouveau- style castles in Estonia. The archidect of the castle was Otto Wildau. In architecture, the manor house is associated more with the national romanticism of Finland than Baltic building traditions. The building that was completed in 1907- 1912 was designed with a high tower, numerous gables, erkers, balconies and sturdy chimneys, which give it the look of the medieval stronghold. There is no symmetry in the external architecture of the building. The materials used are robustly broken granite with rough plaster and scaly salte. The art nouveau approach can also be seen inside the buildungs. Several rooms are arched; the slightly overdone forms create the impression of the mystical troll world. Foyers and the hunting hall are decorated with imposing fireplaces and the former baron's study also has a firepalce, which now creates a nice mood for people staying overnight. The numerous annexes have also bee preserved: wooden houses for servants and labourers, animal barns, water - mill.


In 1922, the manor was given in the Health Care Administration, who used is as a sanatorium. The building was used for health care until 2000, when it was turned into a hotel.

From Tallinn Airport (Tallinna Lennujaam) to Pardi Guesthouse take a taxi (about 150-200 EEK/ 10-13 EUR) or bus nr. 2 to the center (runs every day until midnight, every 20 minutes).
From the center take tram 3 or 4 and step off at the TONDI stop (last stop). The ride here with switching the bus/tram takes about 1 hour.

From Tallinn ferry terminals A, B, C or D to Pardi Guesthouse take taxi (150 EEK/ 10 EUR).
If you prefer public transport, you have to walk to the center (about 15 minutes) and take tram 3 or 4 from the VIRU SQUERE and step out in TONDI stop (last stop).

From the bus station to Pardi Guesthouse take a taxi (about 150EEK/ 10 EUR) or bus nr. 23, 23A to TONDI stop. After about a 5 minutes walk and you will be in Pardi Guesthouse.

Tallinn?s Old Town is small and with a map it won?t be hard to find us. We are situated at Olevimägi 11.

Coming from the harbour:

The easiest way to get here is via Uus street. Simply follow Väike Rannavärav into the old town (it becomes Uus street) then take the first street on your right, which is Olevimägi. Our building is the yellow one on the big intersection at the end.

Otherwise, if you find yourself at the Pikk street gate entrance (near the big Fat Margaret tower) walk into old town and take the first street on the left close to the big church. This will lead you to Sulevimägi street. Turn right and follow the block down and around the corner to the intersection and you will see our door in the yellow building on your left.

Coming from the bus station:

Take tram #2 outside the main entrance of the station 5 stops and get off at Linnahall. You will then be very close to the Pikk street entrance and can follow the directions from the harbour above.

Coming from the airport:

Take the bus 5 stops to the A. Laikmaa stop. You will see the Viru Keskus shopping centre. Walk through it and exit into the park. Follow the crowd and paths towards the old town, where you will see the Viru street gate towers next to a Hesburger restaurant. Walk through the gates, past McDonald^?'s to the top of the street. Turn right onto Vene street and follow it to the end. We are in the yellow building straight ahead.

Coming from the train station:

Enter the old town via Nunne street (across the road). Continue following it until you see a big stone archway leading uphill on the intersection of Nunne and Pikk streets. Turn left onto Pikk street and follow it until you see a fork in the road. Take the downhill path and we are in the yellow building in front of you, on the big intersection.

Coming by taxi:

Taxis that you find on the street tend to overcharge. Try to negotiate a price with them and try not to pay more than 10 euros (150 EEK). If you can, it's much more reliable and cheaper to order a taxi on +372 638 0000 to pick you up (pay attention to the car number that they tell you) and expect to pay 50-125 EEK, depending on traffic and whether you are coming from the harbour, bus station or airport.

Coming by car:

It's impossible to park in the old town, but the closest car park is just outside, on the end of Uus street. From there you can follow the directions from the harbour above.

From the bus station you should take tram number 2 or 4. The Tram goes near the old town. Get off at Viru Square, enter the old town. Walk past the first crossing, Street Aia.
You then need to take the second crossing on Uus Street (walk down on the right side, we are at Uus 22). Trams cost 1 Euro and take 5-10 mins depending on traffic.

You pass the circle-crossroad (Viru square) and enter the Viru Gates (Viru street) You walk forward until you see McDonalds^? on your left, and turn right. Now walk down the street until you see Uus 22 (OldHouse^? Reception) on your right.

From the bus station:
You should exit the bus station and walk stright to (Tartu mnt) and take a tram number 2 with the direction to the city center. The journey takes around 10 minutes. You should come off on Merepuiestee tramstop, cross the road and walk inside the Old Town (through Inseneri street). The road ends with a supermarket "Rimi" in front of you. You should then turn right and walk to the end of the Aia street and turn left. You are now in the Uus street. Turn left and walk about 50 metres and you are in front of our reception. Uus street 22.

From the Port:
The port is very close to our reception, tehrefore the best option is to walk (15 - 20 minutes) towards the Old Town through "Kai street" if you come from terminal "B" or terminal "C" or through "Paadi" and "Ahtri street" if you come from terminal "D". You will cross "Rannamäe street" and then enter the Old Town from "Väike Rannavärav" which will continue as Uus street. Now walk through the street until Uus 22 reception on your left. The other option is to take a taxi.

From Central Bus station:
- You need to take tram No. 4 until (direction Tondi) tram stop 'Vabaduse väljak', or take a bus No. 17, 17a, 23, 23a to 'Vabaduse väljak'.

From Harbour (A, B, C terminals), Train station:
- You need to take tram (direction Tondi, Ulemiste or Kadriorg) to tram stop 'Hobujaama', and take trams No 3 or 4 from there (direction Tondi) and ride to 'Vabaduse väljak'.

From Airport:
- You need to take bus No. 2 and get off at bus stop 'A.Laikmaa' in the city center. From there take a short walk to the tram stop 'Hobujaama' and take tram No 3 or 4 (direction Tondi) to 'Vabaduse väljak'.

Now from 'Vabaduse väljak', which is actually a big car park, you'll have to find the pedestrian underground tunnel. On the other end of the only pedestrian tunnel in Vabaduse Square starts the Roosikrantsi street. Just walk about 50 meters and find house no. 4 with a gateway. Down the gateway there is only one door. Ring the doorbell and we'll let you in:)
