We are located in the heart of the Algonquin Highlands, surrounded by lakes, forest and unspoiled scenery on the edge of Algonquin Park, but don't expect to see hordes of camera-toting sightseers or lines of buses and campervans. Our tiny village of Maynooth (population 200) is still very much 'off the beaten path'!

For our guests travelling without vehicles, we are conveniently located on a Greyhound bus route, and once you have arrived we offer all sorts of Algonquin daytrips and shuttles with options to hike, bike, horseback riding, kayaking and canoeing, or we can set you up for an overnight canoe trip or camping adventure. We guarantee good equipment and the best rental rates!

In the evening unwind and mingle over some drinks in our licensed pub or make use of our guest kitchen, pool table, satellite TV, laundry, internet or large book exchange.

Don't be shy about asking for advice on Algonquin or for travel tips in general. We love to talk travel!

Please note that our rates quoted here are for Hostelling International members. Non members pay an additional $2.85 CAD per night for a dorm bed or $3.64 per night for a private room.
We have allocated only a few of our beds for online bookings. If you are unsure of our availability, or to make reservations with less than 48 hours notice, please contact us directly.

Algonquin Eco-Lodge

Wilderness comfort, in Algonquin Park, Ontario, for those wishing to savour the outdoors
without having to "rough it"!

dorm from
private from 81.55EUR

The Algonquin Eco-Lodge, located on the southern border of Algonquin Park (only 3 hours from Toronto or Ottawa), is a wilderness enthusiasts' dream!

Summer or Winter, there is always plenty to do and see. With over 60 km of groomed trackset and wilderness trails inside Algonquin Park, the Algonquin Eco-Lodge is a leader of hotels for cross country skiing, dog sledding, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, and hiking.

In fact, we have one of the largest single trail systems in Southern Ontario, and offer one of the best wilderness experiences in Canada!

And the fall colours are truly spectacular! Hiking our trails, or paddling a canoe on our private lake in the autumn is an unforgettable way to experience our famous fall colors.

Designed and built as an Algonquin Nordic Wilderness Lodge, the Ecolodge was created to give you the best wilderness experience possible, while minimizing our impact on the environment. It has the feel and atmosphere of a European mountain lodge, and is one of the most secluded hotels in Algonquin Park. In fact, your experience begins with a leisurely 2.3 km walk, or cycle, or ski (about 20 minutes) through Algonquin Park to reach our front doors. Don't worry - your luggage will be transferred for you!

Our Eco-Lodge is beautifully secluded amidst remote Algonquin forests, where even hydro lines and telephone poles can't reach. And yet, with a combination of alternative energy sources, the Eco-Lodge still provides all the finer comforts, such as indoor plumbing, battery powered hot showers, an outdoor wood-fired year round sauna, and even a hot tub for use in our cold winters! And with 17 private bedrooms, there is more than enough space to comfortably hold 40 people.

All this, plus our extensive groomed wilderness trail network, a private 30 acre (12.5 ha) lake, and even a resident wolf pack, makes a visit to the Eco-Lodge an experience to remember.

Your stay includes:

Meals (from dinner on first day to lunch on the last day)
Use of hiking/biking trail system (over 60km!)
Luggage transfers from parking lot
Use of the outdoor Sauna
Free use of Canoes
Use of water toys (inflatable raft, floating noodles, etc.)
Bonfire
Wolf Howl seminars on request

By Air
Fly into Vancouver International Airport, BC. Drive on the Trans-Canada Highway to Banff, Alberta. Numerous other routes (Hwy #3 through the south of BC) can be taken. Your trip to Banff will take 9 hours or as much as 9 days ... depending on what you want to do along the way.

Fly into Edmonton International Airport, Alberta and drive 5 hours on Hwy 16 to Jasper, Alberta then south along the Icefields Parkway (great views) to Banff, Alberta. One of the most scenic drives in the world. Not recommended in the winter, unless you are well equipped.

Fly into Calgary International Airport, Alberta and drive / travel 2 hours west to Banff, Alberta or 2.5 hours to Lake Louise.

By Train / Rail
The Rocky Mountaineer Railtours offers rail service from Vancouver to Banff (and on to Calgary). The only other rail service is Via Rail from Edmonton to Jasper.

By Car
There is so much to see and do that we highly recommend renting a vehicle. You will find that if you're here to hike or enjoy the outdoors it is difficult to get to remote setting easily. Renting vehicles in Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver is the most cost-effective. Most companies have one-way drive options.

By Bus
There are several bus services to Banff: Greyhound Bus Lines, Brewster Transportation and Laidlaw. Numerous charters services cater to groups. There are several buses daily to Calgary and Lake Louise (and west from there).

For our International Youth Hostel? a place to meet people and rest peacefully!
In an Internationals Youth Hostel kept very clean, you are going to live in close connection with the sea. The place style - shared living room, dinning room and kitchen - makes people of all ages sharing their life experiences in an atmosphere called ?Vacations?!

For sea kayaking? a lot of discoveries!
Here it?s a landmark for all kayakers. Easily accessible by our beach, the Gros-Cap?s coast offers a mix of red carved cliffs and caves. Also this side of the archipelago is well sheltered against main winds direction. We offer kayak gears and activities for all tastes!

Local people involved!
That huge red rock called the « Gros-Cap » is the heart of the Canton in name of it. Since many generations, families spent their afternoon at the Gros-Cap?s beach to rest and for having fun! All around the place, depending of the season, many people are fishing mackerel, herring, lobsters, sparing while kayakers paddle along the cliffs? Because of abundant fishing activities in the area, fishermen incorporated a fishmonger?s shop not far from here.

The site of Parc the Gros-Cap has been the site of very intense researches in the middle of the past century. In 1952, the laboratory was built. Located at the end of the cape, a team of research workers were studying sea species for 15 years.

When the laboratory closed in 1969, the provincial government built up a campground with all services.

In 1995, people from all around the Gros-Cap?s canton got involved when they saw the campground ?for sale?. They didn?t want that placeto go to any private promoter. So they made a financial campaign called « Fete du Canton » for the creation of a non- benefit organization called Corporation of Parc de Gros-Cap. Since then, this friendly event is comes back year after year and volunteers? administrators lead the place.

In 2001, the laboratory was converted in an International youth hostel with Hostelling International. All guests can stay here: young travelers, young retired couples, families, member or non-member. The friendly staff is helpful and the sea ambiance is good to relax.

Have good vacations here!
